10 Footbag Trick Shots Every Player Should Learn (From Easy to "How?!")

A progression guide through stalls, delays, and dexterities — the moves that define modern freestyle footbag.

10 Footbag Trick Shots Every Player Should Learn

Modern freestyle footbag is built on three move families: kicks, stalls (catching the bag balanced on a body part), and dexterities (passing the bag through, around, or under a moving body part — usually a leg).

Beginner: Build the Foundation

1. The Inside Kick — The first kick everyone learns. Knee out, foot flat, bag bounces off the arch.

2. The Outside Kick — Same idea, but the outside of the foot. Trains balance and ankle control.

3. The Toe Stall — Catch the bag on top of your shoe laces and hold it there for a beat. The foundation of every freestyle combo.

Intermediate: Add Style

4. The Clipper — An inside kick where the foot crosses behind the standing leg. The signature move of 90s footbag.

5. The Whirl — A 360° body spin while the bag is briefly in the air.

6. The Toe Delay — Like a toe stall, but the foot drops with the bag to soften the catch — making it look smooth and weightless.

Advanced: Welcome to Dexterities

7. The Symposium — A clipper kick where the foot circles the bag in mid-air before contact.

8. The Mirage — A dexterity where the leg passes over the bag from inside to outside while the bag is rising.

9. The Legover Stall — Lift your leg over the falling bag, then stall it on the opposite foot. The move that separates good freestylers from great ones.

Pro: The "How Is That Even Possible" Move

10. The Paradox Mirage — A blind, behind-the-back dexterity combined with a stall. World-class freestylers chain several of these into a single "set" lasting 30+ seconds.

How to Practice

  • Use a 32-panel footbag — softer, more predictable, less bouncy.
  • Practice on a flat, soft surface — gym floor or short grass.
  • Drill stalls before dexterities — control beats flash, every time.
